Cooperative Herds

As Keesee Ranch has evolved over the last 50 years, we are proud to announce we are a cooperative herd operation, working with some of the best herdsmen in the United States. Keesee Ranch cattle and genetics can be found in Kansas, Oklahoma and South Dakota where our four cooperative herds reside.

Drew Hedges | Hedges Cattle Company | Burden, Kansas | 620.229.0426

Hedges Cattle Company is operated and owned by Drew Hedges of Burden, Kans. The history between Keesee Ranch and Hedges Cattle Co. goes back to years of friendship between Cody and Drew.

Every year, Keesee Ranch sends their newly weaned calves to HCC where they will remain until they are of breeding age. At that time, the mature heifers will either be sent back to Keesee Ranch for breeding or they will be artificially insemenated at HCC and brought back to Keesee Ranch as breds.

Over the last six years, HCC has helped raised and house our bulls that have been available for purchase to our customers.

The Starr Family | Starr Livestock | Dupree, South Dakota

After years of working at Griswold Cattle Co., Cody established a long-lasting friendship with Brian Starr of Starr Livestock in Dupree, S.D. Every summer, Cody used to travel to Starr Livestock to A.I. cattle and now the two ranches work together to manage Keesee Ranch cattle.

The Starr family, Brian, Callie and Kourt, works with Keesee Ranch by taking in a a load of females, bulls and a calf split on their South Dakota operation.

In the summer, Keesee Ranch will travel north to A.I. the mature females, housed at Starr Livetock, to their well-known herd sire, GCC Whiskey 499X.

The Scott Family | CS CATTLE COMPANY | HAVANA, Kansas

CS Cattle Company sits on the banks of Skull Creek just outside of Havana, Kans. where it is owned and operated by Clay and Chelsea Scott, and their two children, Stockton and Blazelee.

Cody met Clay through his brother, Travis Scott of Scott Land and Cattle, which developed into a working relationship between Keesee Ranch and CS Cattle Co. Every spring, CSCC will assist with spring calving and help maintain some of the herd sires for Keesee Ranch such as WZ and X.

As breeding season comes around, Cody will travel to Kansas to A.I. cows as well as preg check the females housed at CSCC. Once everything is inseminated and preg checked, Keesee Ranch herd sires will be released into the pastures and used as clean up bulls on the remainder of open cattle and some of CSCC’s Simmental herd.
